CLAREMONT and NEWPORT — Police officer Michael Puksta was recognized Wednesday by McDonald’s Corporation as part of a statewide fundraiser for the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police. In neighboring Newport, Officer Shawn Seymour, also received an award, as did other officers in other communities.

Today’s event was part of a kickoff to a fundraising effort to donate $50,000 to the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police. All 54 restaurants across the state have committed to donating. A percentage of this evening sales (4-7 p.m.) will contribute to the donations.

Both officers in Claremont and Newport, along with the others, were recognized for deep involvement in the community. Puksta was awarded for a call in April where he found persons in distress, but no obvious reason why. He continued to investigate and discovered high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure. Seymour was recognized for his service at the Police Training Academy and his two tours of duty in the Army in Afghanistan.
