BOYS SOCCER

Windsor 2, Green Mountain 2

Windsor tied with Green Mountain 2-2 Thursday afternoon in Windsor. Windsor took the lead after 20 minutes as Dan Cardillo placed a shot bottom left corner from about 25 yards out that snuck by the keeper. GM immediately responded with a goal by James Anderson off a cross from the right side of the box. After halftime, GM controlled possession for a good portion of the half, getting a goal from Everett Mosher to go up 2-1. Windsor was able to tie it up at 2 as Hunter Grela received a lay-off from Andrew Kelly-Jacobs to curl it over the keeper. GM had some golden chances including a penalty kick that was saved by Eli Milligan but were unable to find a winner. Windsor head coach Steve Mulloy: “Though it wasn’t a win, it certainly feels like a deserved result. We had already lost to GM twice by identical 2-1 scores so when they went up 2-1, it certainly seemed as if luck wouldn’t be on our side again. But the boys did a great job digging in, tying up the game, and seeing out a draw. We’ve had a tough run of fixtures so it was a boost today to at least gain a draw.” GM head coach Cole Wilhelm: “Going into this game we knew it was going to be a tough game. It is always really difficult to beat a team three times in a row… GM has always had difficulty winning that third game in the season against Windsor. It was a well-played game on our side, we had a good chunk of possession and after getting scored on we immediately responded with a goal a minute or two later. However, the soccer gods were not on our side today with a penalty not going in and numerous hits off the crossbar and post. It is not the result that we wanted, but at the end of the day, my team left it all on the field. Now we are going to meet a big rival Arlington on Tuesday at home. Today also saw the return of our captain center back after an injury during the first night of Josh Cole Tournament so another positive. Every game is a battle and it’s time to look to the next game and recalibrate the team and get it ready for the next battle.”
