HANOVER — Ruth M. Sisson, 92, died at her residence, Kendal at Hanover, Hanover, N.H., on Sept. 27, 2018.
She moved there with her husband, Donald M. Sisson, in 2002. He died in 2010.
She is survived by her two sons, David (Maeve) of Buffalo and John of Manhattan, and a grandson, Duncan of Biddeford, Maine.
Raised in Worcester, Mass., she was graduated from Bancroft School, and received a BA in music from Mount Holyoke College in 1947. That same year she married Donald, whom she had met as a child on a piano bench taking joint lessons and performing duets.
They settled in New Jersey and lived many years in Tenafly, where she was involved in church activities and committees. In the ‘70s, they moved to New Canaan, Conn.
Upon retirement, they moved to New London, NH, where she helped raise funding for the town’s bandstand. She was also a supporter of The Laudholm Farm in Wells, Maine.
Wherever she resided, she participated in amateur theatrical productions by playing piano. Ruth also enjoyed performing musically themed programs for Kendal residents. She had an extensive collection of sheet music from the 20’s and 30’s. For many years she served on Mount Holyoke’s Alumnae Association in different capacities.
A memorial service will be planned for Spring, 2019 and she will be interred at The First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, Conn., alongside her husband.
Gifts may be made to the Mount Holyoke College, Class of 1947 Memorial Scholarship Fund.
