CLAREMONT — Eugene Lawrence Fowler Sr., 75, passed away at home on Oct. 5, 2018 from complications due to Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Claremont on March 8, 1943, the son of Theodore and Mildred (Martin) Fowler.
Gene was graduate of Stevens High School. He was co-captain of the football team and received the MVP Award and still holds one title.
He was a charter member and first President of Sullivan County Humane Society. He had a great love for all animals and had many of his own over the years.
In younger years he raced for Larry Stickney at Claremont Speedway and was top-point car two years in a row in his class. Never underestimate Gene with a challenge. He also refereed school football games.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy (Willard) Fowler; his son Kenny Fowler (Marsha); siblings, Albert Fowler, Midge Fowler, Russell Fowler (Ann-Marie), Linda Clark (Dick), Tommy Fowler (Jane), and Lydia Wadleigh (John); in-laws Bill and Bev Flanagan; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Theodore Fowler, Patricia Von Dreden and Carol Shute.
Gene was retired from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he worked in the power plant for many years and held a first-class power engineer license.
Many thanks to his doctors at Dartmouth for their care of Gene over the years, especially Dr. Brackett and Dr. Greenberg.

A memorial service will be held at the Union Episcopal Church on Old Church Road on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m.
