WALPOLE — The First Congregational Church UCC Walpole will host a delegate from Chiredzi, Zimbabwe, Danniford Masunungure, from Oct. 12-29. Masunungure, a member of a five-person delegation, arrives in New Hampshire on Friday, Oct. 12, and will spend the next two weeks both in Walpole and touring the state. The delegation represents a partnership, “Ukama”, with the New Hampshire United Church of Christ and the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe. Currently there are 47 churches in New Hampshire partnered with churches in Zimbabwe.
Ukama is the Shona expression for “we are family.” It is a one-to-one relationship between a particular local church in the UCCZ (United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe) and one in the New Hampshire Conference of the UCC (NHUCC), to bring respect and a genuine desire to enter into the lives of our sister churches not as a benefactor or recipient, but as equals sharing strengths and needs in support of one another.
Masunungure will be speaking at the First Congregational Church UCC Walpole on Sunday, Oct. 14, during the church service at 10 a.m. Following the service, there will be a potluck luncheon in Fellowship Hall. He and other members of the delegation will also be at the United Church of Christ, Keene on Monday evening, Oct. 22, 5:30-7:30 p.m., for a regional gathering potluck dinner.
