GIRLS SOCCER
Springfield 1, Randolph 0
After going to the half tied 0-0, Jenna Veysey scored 25 seconds in to the second half on a pass from Maddison O’Brien for the only goal of the contest. The shot was a well-placed, high-arching shot from the right corner over the goalkeepers head to the far post. Cosmos head coach Kevin Hoisington: “Randolph played hard and aggressive until the final whistle and kept our backline on its toes. When Randolph did break through, goal keeper Mykahla Jasinski was there to save the day. Mykahla had a career day and played a first class game she stood tall time and time again. Our group came together tonight and completed the victory through a team effort. I absolutely love this group. They earned and deserved this win.”
Fall Mountain 0, Trinity 0
The FM girls played Trinity to a 0-0 tie on the John Copper Hubbard soccer field. “I always get a thrill playing on this field knowing my Natural Resource Classes did all the work to make this field happen back in the day,” said FM head coach Bruce Ferland. “I feel honored to coach this team and be able to play on this field that so many students of the past helped build. Some of those first students now have their children playing on this field. It’s crazy how time passes by.” 100 minutes went by Monday night as the Wildcats worked non-stop till the end to show parents, fans, and Trinity they are going to be a team to reckon with before this season is over. Several times during the game, the Wildcats took their turn at dominating the field of play, only to give it back to Trinity… only to catch their breath and once again take another run at controlling the game. FM’s sophomore goalie Erin Brady had plenty of opportunity to catch soccer balls, but for the most part all game long the continuous long balls shot at her were easy for her to deal with. The cats did not have many great looks at the cage but still moved the ball up and down the field. Only shortened runs and misconnected passes kept them off the clock and out of the goal. Coach Ferland had a message to his team after the tie: “We are on our way, keep working because you ran the offense and you went from one end to another, and you looked great.”
BOYS SOCCER
Mascenic 4, Fall Mountain 1
Billy Wilder scored for the FM Wildcats in the second half but it wasn’t enough to come back. Tyler Leining assisted on the play.
Pittsfield 6, Newport 1
Newport head coach Caleb Godwin: “We started off pretty good. It was a well-balanced match between us. During the first half Pittsfield was putting on pressure and ended up getting a goal. We were able to get a penalty kick inside the 18 due to a push. Joe Boliero was able to place the penalty kick for a goal late in the half. During the second half we just lost pace and started to move to a defensive line. We needed to be more aggressive and just couldn’t get to the ball in time. In the second half we let up 5 goals on unlucky plays that we should have had. Both Garrett Harold and Caleb Palmer did very well in goal, they both were very aggressive and weren’t hesitating to come out. I’m still happy we are improving every day and it shows.”
