WEST LEBANON — The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension and the New Hampshire Dairy Practices Committee are sponsoring the Annual New Hampshire Dairy Management Conferences.
The southern conferences will be held on Nov. 14 at the Fireside Inn & Suites, West Lebanon, New Hampshire, off I-89 Exit 20. This year’s morning speaker will be Dr. Amanda Stone, assistant professor, and Extension dairy specialist, Mississippi State University. Stone completed her BS degrees in animal science and biology from the University of Findlay in Ohio, and her master of science and doctoral degrees at the University of Kentucky, where the focus of her research was on the effectiveness of using Precision Dairy Monitoring technologies to detect mastitis and fresh cow diseases. Stone works with producers everyday on troubleshooting problems and finding ways to improve their herds. She teaches two courses on campus and is heavily involved in youth dairy education. She also conducts research on confinement and pasture herds. Her current project evaluates the effects of heat stress through the use of technologies.
Through her presentation, Stone will focus on precision dairy farming technologies — what technologies are available, how they are used, investment and cost analysis, and where the industry is headed in the future. Producers will also learn what they should consider when adapting these technologies on their farms.
The afternoon session will center on dairy farm support programs in neighboring states. Speakers from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine will share what their states have done for dairy producers in times of low milk prices.
Registration is $15 (if received in the office before Nov. 7), or $25 at the door, which includes refreshments and lunch. The student rate is $10 per person and NH FFA students are free. Checks can be made payable to New Hampshire Dairy Practices Committee and mailedc/o Michal Lunak, UNH Cooperative Extension, 3855 DCH, Box 5, No. Haverhill, NH 03774.
