NEWPORT — Norma Jean Pevine, 83, died peacefully on Oct. 5, 2018 at the Sullivan County Nursing Home where she had received high quality care for the past nine months.
“Jeanie”, as she was fondly called by her family and close friends, was one of seven daughters born to Napoleon L. Pevine and Grace M. (LaPlante) Pevine. She was predeceased by her parents, and sisters: Irene Pillsbury, Gloria Morrill, Beverly Flewelling, and Janice Mahan, as well as her nephew, Dana Flewelling.
Jeanie attended and graduated from Towle High School in Newport. Following high school she was employed at the Brampton Woolen Mill in Newport and later at Dartmouth Woolen Mill in Claremont. Though she spent most of her life living in Newport, she briefly resided in Claremont and Virginia.
Norma Jean leaves behind two sisters: Geraldine Page of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Sharon Otterson of Washington, along with her “adopted” children: Chuck Page of Weathersfield, Vermont, Jennifer (Page) Ash of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Heather (Page) Dingess of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Debbie Bates of Newport.
Her great loves were her needlework, all of her nieces and nephews, her faith, and her dog, Fritz. She was an avid walker and knew the streets of Newport by heart.
Jeanie was a special woman who had a talent for walking miles in and around Newport. She could always be heard asking, “How are ya?” when greeting old friends. Jeanie had keen eyesight allowing her to locate dropped coins wherever she walked. In her final year of life Jeanie’s eyesight failed causing complete blindness. As she passes on to her new life, we hope that there will be pennies in heaven and that she will have no difficulty seeing them. There is no doubt, that with her generous heart she will share those coins with her old and new friends.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services for Jeanie will be held at a later date and time providing family and close friends to say their goodbyes.
