BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — The Elks Lodge #1619 has selected Senior Maria Luther-Houghton as its Student of the Month for September. Maria is the daughter of Laurie and Scott of Acworth.
Maria was nominated by the Career and Technical department and described as “a committed and caring student. She is always looking to learn and do more. She is willing to help out when requested. Maria is making a difference at Fall Mountain Regional High School and in her community.”
Maria has been an honor roll student throughout her three years at Fall Mountain and received the St. Michael’s Book Award as a junior. She is an active member of the Fall Mountain school community. She was a member of Student Congress and is a member of many FM club including Interact, FFA, World Language, Writing, and Drama. She was also a member of the Prom Committee and is on the Cross Country Ski Team.
Outside of school Maria stays active in Youth Group and participates in Community Theater with the Acworth Players. She has a part-time job at Walpole Grocery and internship at Sullivan County Complex in the Pollinator Garden Seed Saver Project.
After high school, Maria wants to pursue a degree in ecological agriculture and continue to develop her skills in floral design.
