Fair Haven 17, Bellows Falls 16
BF lost a tough one on Friday night at home, dropping their record to 5-2 this season. For the Terriers, Jed Lober ran 26 times for 128 yards and a touchdown, Brady Clark ran 9 times for 34 yards and caught 2 balls for 35 more yards. Quarterback Griffin Waryas scored a rushing touchdown. Dylan Clark paced the Terriers on defense with 6 tackles, 3 for a loss and 1.5 sacks. As a team, BF had 179 yards on the ground and 63 yards in the air. BF will round out their regular season on Friday, Oct. 19 on the road at U-32.
BOYS SOCCER
Sunapee 5, Hinsdale 0
The Lakers shut-out the Hinsdale Pacers Friday evening. Junior Michael Mullen scored a hat-trick and broke the Sunapee Boys Soccer single-season scoring record of 25 goals by scoring his 26th, 27th, and 28th goals of the season. Jackson Cooney scored the first goal of the night, heading home a beautiful cross from Lane Smith. Mullen scored his goals in the 27th, 42nd and 44th minutes. Darren Hulton who had several hard shots on goal earlier in the game finally put one past the Pacer’s keeper at the 48 minute mark to finish out the scoring. Lakers head coach Jack Iacopino: “Gabe Hastings and Parker Reed each played well earning assists. This was a lot better night than our last game. We passed well and pressured them all night. Hinsdale’s keeper had a great night with 20 saves.” Sunapee (11-3) will host Wilton (5-5-2) Monday at 4:00 p.m.
ConVal 2, Kearsarge 0
Kearsarge had 4 shots on Friday and 9 saves from keeper Seth Rutledge-Davis. ConVal goals were scored in the 9 minute and the 58 minute. “Great games by seniors Jared Fortier and Joe Baldasaro,” said Cougars coach John Geary. Their next game (Senior Night) is on Thursday at 6 p.m. vs. Merrimack Valley.
Monadnock 1, Fall Mountain 0
FM lost a tough, evenly-fought game at Monadnock Friday. Monadnock scored early in the second half off of a corner kick and Fall Mtn. had several shots and opportunities in the second half to tie it up but couldn’t put one in.
VOLLEYBALL
Epping 3, Sunapee 1
The Sunapee Volleyball teams traveled to Epping to face the Blue Devils of Epping High School on Friday. The Sunapee JV team lost in 2 sets: 23-25 and 22-25. They won the third set 15-9. Sunapee varsity (3-9) challenged the Epping Varsity (9-3). The Blue Devils won the match in 4 sets: 19-25, 6-25, 28-26, and 14-25. The Lakers drop to 3-10 and the Blue Devils advance to 10-9. GIRLS SOCCER
Otter Valley 2, Windsor 1
Morgan McKeen scored Windsor’s lone goal 10 minutes into game. Olivia White scored 2 goals over the next 10 minutes for OV to make the halftime score 2-1. “Second half, we controlled the run of play, but just couldn’t finish,” said Windsor coach Jeff Bachey. Adi Prior made 6 saves on 10 shots and Windsor had 8 shots on frame.
Sunapee 7, Hinsdale 0
Sunapee returned to form on Friday winning 7-0 on their home turf. Laker Goals were scored by Ellie Frederick (1), Skylar Hathorn (1), Abigail Pollari (3), Hannah Cooney (1) and there was an own goal off a corner kick scrum. Assists were awarded to Hannah Cooney (1) and Marybeth Groton (1). Sunapee head coach Myles Cooney: “In all I was pleased with the effort and focus. We lost our touch a bit along the way here….but tonight we moved the field well, checked back to the ball, passed well from the back, won 50/50 balls, played the ball out of the air… so I am pleased. We have a big game Monday (hosting Stevens) that will decide a lot in the standings….I hope the girls are ready.”
FIELD HOCKEY
Windsor 3, Woodstock 1
Karen Kapuscinski had a goal for Windsor assisted from Hannah Wood 8 minutes in to the game. Angelina Bigwood scored her 20th goal of the season 6 minutes later. Woodstock’s Lili Sorrentino had the lone score for Woodstock making it 2-1 at half. The only goal in the second half was by Kapuscinski from Peyton Richardson. Shots on goal: Windsor 15, Woodstock 9. Penalty Corners: Windsor 11, Woodstock 3. Windsor’s next game is next Tuesday vs Springfield. Side note: Angelina Bigwood needs just one goal to tie the school single-season scoring record and 2 to surpass for Windsor. The record is currently held by Haley Wood with 21. Haley went on to play Division 1 Field Hockey at Bryant University of Rhode Island.
Hopkinton 6, Newport 1
The Newport Tigers were defeated by Hopkinton Friday afternoon by a score of 6-1. Katie Messure scored her first of three goals for the afternoon 3:00 minutes into the contest and the Hawks never looked back. Hopkinton held a 4-0 halftime advantage thanks to Tora Thornley’s goal just before the half. The Tigers fought hard in the second half and closed the margin to 4-1 when Maddie Miller fed a ball across the circle and Eliza Bates found the back of the cage. Thornley added two more goals to close out the scoring. Newport will now await Monday’s draw to see where they travel for the first round of the playoffs. Goalkeeper Kelsey Wheeler finished the day with eight saves. The Tigers closed the regular season at 7-7 while Hopkinton improved to 12-2.
Kearsarge 3, Mascenic 0
“There was such great energy and the team really pulled together to earn an emotional win,” said Cougars head coach Dianne Chadwick on her team’s Senior Night. “It was a bit of a sluggish start but the girls found their groove, moved the ball well, and had some great defensive stops.” Paige Hoegler scored in a penalty corner with 8.5 minutes left in the first half to help the team find their groove, and Abby Nadeau continued it on a cross from Jordan Pollard to up the lead to 2-0 with ten seconds left in the half. Nadeau was also key in the second half with an assist to Izzy Wulff, who found the net and brought the score to 3-0 with 6 minutes left to play. During a final push by Mascenic in the last two minutes, senior Brooke Rozum made a critical stop in the circle to help Marissa Pickman hold a shutout on her first game back from injury. “Senior Night is always special, and even more so when a win is earned. I’m so proud of all of them for truly playing for each other,” said Chadwick. Key players were: Abby Naduea, goal and assist; Paige Hoegler, goal; Izzy Wulff, goal; Jordan Pollard, assist; Audrey Kenyon, assist; Chase Lennon, forward, with great hustle; Hannah Tockman, great stops on defense; Marissa Pickman, 12 saves for a shut-out.
