Alford-Teaster gets it

To the editor,

I am supporting Jenn Alford-Teaster for New Hampshire State Senate, District 8 seat on Nov. 6. I’ve spent time with her over the summer, and have been very impressed with her energy, smarts, and down-to-earth manner that lets her connect with everyone.

Jenn is passionate about supporting public education because government investment in good schools and dedicated teachers made a real difference in her life, from growing up in poverty on the Seacoast, to putting herself through graduate school, including a degree from UNH. She’s devoted her career to studying rural access to healthcare. From years of volunteering at a homeless shelter, she has seen up close just how terrible the opioid crisis has been in New Hampshire.

Jenn’s been there, understanding in her bones that it shouldn’t be that hard to put food on the table, and it shows in her intense wish to make life better for people not just with backgrounds like hers, but for all New Hampshire residents.

Far from the ridiculous and offensive stereotypical labels of “Hollywood liberal,” “outside money,” and “party line,” Jenn is a local citizen who gets it. I find her a political moderate who will do her homework, speak up (unlike Ruth Ward, who remained silent in her last two years in the New Hampshire Senate and simply votes the party direction), and make up her own mind.

We baby boomers have had our turn. We’re lucky to have dynamic young people like Jenn Alford-Tester who are willing to pick up the baton.
