To the editor and voters of NH House District 9 Sullivan County,
As we approach the upcoming election in November I am compelled to do something I have not done in any previous election. I, of course, will vote as I have in every election since I turned eligible. Full disclosure, I am old enough to be of the group that could not vote until they were 21. This is my first letter to the editor endorsing a candidate for public office.
I fully endorse and ask others to consider voting for Linda Tanner our incumbent representative in the N.H. House of Representatives, who running for re election. There are many issues that put Linda Tanner in front of what I feel is important for this district, its residents, and its future growth.
Of all of these issues the issue of support for public education starting with early childhood education on thru our university system is the one which best exemplifies why I support for Linda Tanner.
I have looked over both candidates. I like action, and real proposals above vague rhetoric with popular catch phrases, and a record I can look at, experience in the field of education at multiple levels.
I know Linda very well, as for a good number of years she was a valued colleague and mentor, by advice and example for me as I started my career in education. I saw Linda in action at many a faculty meeting and on the numerous committees she was asked to serve on while a teacher. It served her well when she took that experience in listening, evaluating and then making the tough call for the better opportunity for students with her to the N.H. House of Representatives where she sat on the House Education Committee. She had to work with legislation of all stripes and from different educational approaches and interests. Her standards for each piece of legislation pro or con were based on a hard look at educational responsibility and responsiveness to student needs. At the same time it placed her on the side of equal accountability in program, staffing, curriculum standards and student access for any suggested bill where public money be taken away from public education to be distributed at the cost both to the public school budget and the local property owners tax bill. She continues to be a strong independent education advocate with the energy and commitment to use her experience and team work ethic to look out for the interests of children, young adults, and tax payers who look to the future knowing how important available strong publicly supported education is for all of us.
So again, if you look at this issue and real proposals and actions to get the work done. I hope you choose to continue Rep. Tanner as our choice for District 9 Sullivan County in the N.H. House of Representatives this election.
