Vermont Route 106 and Vermont Route 131 Intersection to become four-way stop

MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) will begin work the week of Oct. 22 to alter the Vermont Route 106 and Vermont Route 131 intersection in Weathersfield from a two-way stop to a four-way stop. The conversion is anticipated to be completed within a week.

The intersection is currently configured with a two-way stop for motorists traveling on Route 131. The addition of stop signs on Route 106 will make this a four-way stop. This new traffic control at this intersection is expected to improve the safety of the intersection. Approximately two thousand vehicles travel through this intersection each day.

“This intersection has been a high crash location for years,” said Bruce Nyquist, Director of VTrans’ Office of Highway Safety. “Various changes to the signage have been made to the intersection over the past decades with minor improvements in the safety of the intersection. Right angle crashes are common at this intersection. Providing four-way stop control at this intersection is a more substantial change to achieve the goal of reducing this type of crashes.”

All crash reports submitted to the State of Vermont involving motorized vehicles on public highways are available for query on the VTrans Public Crash Data Query Tool, at apps.vtrans.vermont.gov/CrashPublicQueryTool/.
