Janice Harrington

CLAREMONT — Janice Elaine Harrington was born on July 20 1939 in Claremont, New Hampshire and died on Oct. 6, 2018 in Middlebury, Vermont at the age of 79. The daughter of Harry and Claire (Raymond) Blish, Janice attended Stevens High School in Claremont and then attended Arizona State University. She married the love of her life, Donald Harrington, in 1957. They had five children together.

Jan touched many lives through her work with children. First as a kindergarten owner and teacher in Colchester, Vermont and then later as daycare provider in Ferrisburgh, Vermont. Jan was heavily involved with her community and served as an Addison County Red Cross disaster representative, and as a board member for: ACTR, the John Graham Shelter, Addison County Court Diversion, and Covenant Hill Methodist/UCC Christian Camp. She was a Girl Scout leader and president of the PTO for Ferrisburgh Grade School and on the Mission Committee of Vergennes Congregational Church. She was also the recipient of a United Way service award.

Janice leaves her husband of 61 years Donald Harrington, her sister Karol Alves, her children, Patrick Harrington and his wife Liz, Kelly Harrington, Michelle Harrington Smyth and her husband Peter, and Joanna Harrington. She leaves grandchildren, Justin Votos and his wife Yianna, Marc Harrington and his wife Bethany and their son Luke, Darwin Smyth, Harper Smyth, and Locke Harrington. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Harry “Bud” Blish and her daughter Su-An Harrington.

A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Vergennes Congregational Church. Donations in her name can be made to the John Graham Shelter in Vergennes, Vermont.

The funeral will take place at Vergennes Congregational Church, Vergennes, Vermont on Saturday Oct. 20, 2018.
