FIELD HOCKEY

#5 Lebanon 1, #12 Stevens 0 (OT)

Stevens field hockey played a great game at Lebanon in the first round of the D-III playoffs. The game was scoreless after regulation and Stevens ended up allowing a goal with 2:21 left in overtime to end their season at 6-7-2. This was their second OT game in less than a week. On her team, Stevens head coach Patty Deschaine said, “They played with heart and left everything on the field. We are very proud coached in watching the tremendous effort they played until the very end of the game.” The Cardinals will graduate five seniors; Hailey LaClair, Ryann Rider, Sophie Foote, Carrie Faro, and Ashlee Brown.

#9 Berlin 2, #8 Kearsarge 1

“We played a great first half and passed well, and we scored first with Audrey Kenyon connecting in the circle,” said Kearsarge head coach Dianne Chadwick. “We kept it at 1-0 going in to the second period, but I knew Berlin would come out hungry in the second half. They are strong and their desire to win showed. We made too many errors and lost our momentum when they scored two goals out of the gate in the second. Having said that, Kearsarge fought to the end and we came so close to bringing it to a tie game with several forward runs and shots on goal. I wish Berlin the best in playoffs as they advance.” Key players for the game were: Audrey Kenyon, goal; Chase Lennon, forward; Kate Cochran and Eliza Cardillo, midfield; Jordan Pollard and Brier Roberts, defense. “These girls have fought hard all season and there is some real talent in our freshmen and sophomores,” said Chadwick. “I think they will be stronger next year and look forward already to seeing what lies ahead.”

BOYS SOCCER

Hillsboro 3, Fall Mountain 2

FM lost 3-2 in a tight contest at FM against Hillsboro. Hunter Paquette put FM ahead 9 minutes into the second half and then Billy Wilder pulled one back to make the score 3-2 with 8 minutes left in the game. FM put on a lot of pressure in the final few minutes but couldn’t get the equalizer.FM ends their season with Senior Night at 6:00 p.m. at FM against Conant on Thursday.

Franklin 4, Newport 1

“We started strong and moved the ball a lot,” said Newport head coach Caleb Godwin. “We let up 2 goals in the first half as Garrett Harold did a great job in goal going after the ball but we were just unlucky on the bounce off Garrett as he was slipping in the mud. We had the ball majority of the time on Franklin’s side, but just couldn’t find a way to finish it. During the second half we tried to move forward and make shots. Cooper Skarin gave a nice pass to Isaac Lafayette to get a goal. We started off strong and maintained it during that half with a lot of shots but again couldn’t find the spot. Franklin was able to get 2 more goals as one of them was bounced off of our player. Overall we did well but we will need to work a bit more on communication and follow up.”

Coe-Brown 3, Stevens 0

Stevens made a couple mistakes that Coe-Brown capitalized on early. “Other than that we were pretty happy with the way we played in the second half,” said Stevens head coach Jason Stone. Cooper Moote made 7 saves. “We created a bunch of chances to score in the second half but once again couldn’t put the ball in goal. We earned 6 corner kicks and came very close to converting on a couple of them… one more chance on Thursday night to get a win and end the season on a high note.”

Twin Valley 6, Green Mountain 0

“We showed up for the first ten minutes, playing well with intensity, but unfortunately we weren’t able to keep any momentum and were having trouble putting together our passing today,” said GM head coach Cole Wilhelm. “We picked up some injuries that required some substitutions. We didn’t end up playing our game. Twin Valley is a very strong team and Buddy has done a great job developing that team. We would have times where we were the team that we know we can be but those times just didn’t hold and it was hard to maintain any rhythm for us. It isn’t the result that we wanted but on to the next game.” GM plays MSJ on the road Saturday at 11 a.m.
