NORTH SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Springfield hosted the MVL Cross Country Championships on Tuesday evening, which featured teams from Green Mountain, Windsor, Springfield, MSJ, Hartford, Mill River, Long Trail, Arlington, Otter Valley, and Poultney.
Hartford took home the boys title with three top-ten finishers, and it was the Yellow Jackets who walked away with the girls team championship.
For Windsor, Morgan McKeen finished second, Evelyn Page finished third, Olivia Rockwood placed fifth, and Belle Moulton finished ninth. Windsor head coach Kabray Rockwood was extremely proud of his group after the meet.
When asked what he thought of his girls’ performance, coach Rockwood said, “It was phenomenal. It was the first time that we’ve had a full team. We have a lot of girls that play other sports. It was good to have them all at a big meet and have them all run well.”
Windsor’s Morgan McKeen finished first at this event last year, and followed that up with a second-place finish this time around.
“I was really impressed with Morgan’s performance,” said coach Rockwood. “… she’s been battling ankle issues all season… and she has worked through it and is trying to get herself healthy. This was the first race that she actually looked like herself… and it was nice to have her have a good performance at the right time.”
Belle Moulton finished in the top ten for the third time in her career as a high school runner. On Moulton, Rockwood said, “Her holding down that four-spot was key to us winning.”
Evelyn Page, McKeen, and Olivia Rockwood are all on Windsor’s soccer squad, and have been able to find a way to balance enough to lead the Yellow Jackets to victory Tuesday. With Olivia Rockwood and Belle Moulton as juniors and McKeen and Page as sophomores, the future of running in Windsor is looking bright.
