To the editor,
School bullying. That means one child harassing or threatening another child, right? Tragically, sometimes the bully in the school district is an adult.
In September, the Sunapee School Board heard a formal complaint against a Sunapee School District employee for allegedly unleashing a tirade of F-bombs while speaking about calling the admissions office of a college and ruining a child`s future (employee`s words). The Sunapee board also received a related five-page written request for an unbiased independent investigation into the possible cover-up of similar acts of bullying and retribution by staff against children in Sunapee schools.
Who would oppose an investigation to determine whether emotional abuse of children is being covered up in a school? If Superintendent Russell Holden and the Sunapee School Board did the right thing every time to protect children, they should openly support the proposed investigation and protect their own good names. Anything less speaks for itself.
This school board needs to stop huddling in nonpublic sessions to discuss legal strategies. They must commission this independent investigation and protect children now!
What happens next time, if a child`s education is threatened by a staff member seeking retribution against a parent? What if the child responds by harming himself or shooting up the school? Following every school tragedy there is always that third-party independent investigation. Let`s not have that investigation after a tragedy, let`s have it now.
