Weather Watch

Snow on the mountain

The second week of October featured a continuation of rain and cloudy weather. Even the leaves lacked their usual fall colors by Columbus Day on Oct. 8.

About the only thing that didn’t happen during the first half of the month was a layer of frost. That all changed on Sunday, Oct. 14th, however.

It was time to dig out vehicle window scrapers for the first time this fall. One of the early fall tests for motorists was locating their scraper that was put away for good once the warm spring weather arrived a year ago.

Checking out Mount Washington, the first snowfall of the season was reported on Sunday. Although it was only 1 inch, it was official, according to an official at the Mount Washington Observatory. Cannon Mountain also recorded snow from its mid-mountain area to the top.

At 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning the temperature was 17 degrees with a wind chill of minus 6 degrees and a wind of 58 mph.
