Court strikes down anti-student voting Bill SB3

CONCORD — Following the Hillsborough Superior Court’s decision to strike down [Senate Bill]3 saying in part, “Given the extraordinarily low rate of documented voter fraud in this state, it is far more likely that legitimate voters will be dissuaded from voting than illegitimate voters will be prevented,”New Hampshire Young Democrats Executive Director and Nashua state Representative Amelia Keane released the following statement:

“While Governor Sununu and his conservative allies dedicated themselves to disenfranchising young people from voting over the past two sessions, today’s order striking down SB3 is a tremendous victory in protecting voting rights across our state. Instead of focusing on burdensome paperwork and restricting access to the ballot box, our state must work to modernize and secure our election infrastructure by passing Automatic and Online voter registration. Our democracy is stronger when all eligible voters take part in our elections.

“Even though this is victory for the upcoming mid-term elections, we have not forgotten Gov. Sununu’s flip flop on HB 1264 and will continue to educate students about their right to vote so we can replace him with a true champion for student voting rights like Molly Kelly.”
