BOYS SOCCER
VT D-III: #9 Green Mountain 4, #8 Hazen 0
GM started off game really strong and scored about 20 minutes into the first half; goal was scored by Dylan McCarthy, assisted by Everett Mosher off a corner kick. “We entered the second half 1-0 and came out with a lot of intensity, hunting those 1st and 2nd balls,” said GM head coach Cole Wilhelm. “We were rewarded shortly into the second half with a goal from Brooks Ordway-Smith being played through by James Anderson. From that second goal we kept upping the pressure on the Hazen defense and midfield; the third goal came from Brooks Ordway-Smith, assisted by his brother Chase Ordway-Smith, who gave Brooks a ball over the defense to run onto. The final goal was from Everett Mosher; the goal was assisted by Ty Merrill off a corner in the final 10 minutes.
“This was a good win for the boys, we travelled a long way which always strains on the boys. However, we came out strong playing with intensity. We followed the three tenants that we set forth as a program: communicate, hunt the ball, and hold our shape. We had a solid performance from our defenders Chase Ordway-Smith and Carver Provance. The team left it all out there and put a lot of work in today.” GM moves on to the quarterfinals, and will play Friday in Wilmington against No. 1Twin Valley.
VT D-III: #5 Peoples Academy 9, #12 Windsor 0
Windsor went up to Morrisville and were beaten by Peoples Academy by a score of 9-0 in a Division III playdown. Peoples set the tone early, putting three goals in within the first 15 minutes, effectively sealing the game and providing themselves the opportunity to see out a comfortable victory. “It was tough going up there because we really had no idea what to expect from them,” said Windsor head coach Steven Mulloy. “It’s not a team that we play and we don’t share any common opponents so we really had no frame of reference for what we were up against. They came out of the gate firing and I don’t think we were totally prepared for what they had to offer. In reality, by the time we had gotten our bearings, they were already up by three. Ultimately, they were a step up in class from where we are and showed how much work we have to do as a program.”
GIRLS SOCCER
VT D-II: #4 U-32 8, #13 Springfield 0
“We carried a shorthanded roster due to some recent injuries into a difficult environment and came out on the wrong side of the score sheet,” said Springfield coach Joe Costello. “I credit our girls for their willingness to compete out of position and for creating some truly good chances, which didn’t find the back of the net. U-32 has a complete team, they play high quality soccer and were simply too much for us Tuesday night.”
NH D-III: #5 Gilford 6, #12 Fall Mountain 1
Fall Mountain girls soccer’s season comes to a close after a 7-8-1 regular season record and a one-and-done in the NHIAA D-III playoffs. They fell to a 12-4 Gilford squad who will now face the winner of Hopkinton and Derryfield in the quarterfinals.
NH D-III: #2 Stevens will host #7 Trinity on Friday at 6 p.m. in Claremont.
