VOLLEYBALL

NH D-III: #3 Inter-Lakes 3, #14 Sunapee 0

The Sunapee Volleyball team traveled to Meredith to challenge the Lakers of Inter-Lakes Regional High School in the preliminary round of the Division III tournament on Thursday evening. The Sunapee Lakers finished the season in 14th place with 6 wins and 10 losses. The Inter-Lakes Lakers finished the season in 3rd place with 13 wins and 3 losses.  Sunapee lost the match in 3 sets: 5-25, 12-25, and 13-25. Sunapee’s stats: Serving- Molly Reed, 3 of 3, 0 aces, Grace Clay, 6 of 6, 1 ace, Nicole Malanga, 6 of 6, 0 aces, Mackenzie Wrightington, 2 of 3, 0 aces, Tess Palin, 5 of 6, 0 aces, Cari Peirce, 7 of 7, 1 ace. Hitting/kills- Wrightington 4, Palin 3, Clay 1, Peirce 1, Lexi Miller 3.

NH D-III: #7 Mascenic 3, #10 Fall Mountain 0

FM traveled to Mascenic Thursday night for a preliminary round playoff game, and lost a well-played match 3-0. Scores were 25-16, 25-13, 25-12. “They just had a little more offensive power than we did tonight,” said FM head coach Michelle Swift. “I can’t say how proud I am of our kids. We forced them to do things they don’t usually do, we covered our hitters and blockers, and we really just left everything we had on the court.” Sarah Schadler led FM in serving, as she had 9 points, 3 kills and 1 block. Hannah McCormick had 4 assists and 2 kills. Makayla Barre had 4 kills and 3 digs. Elissa Brady had 3 kills and 3 blocks. “We worked really hard in practice all week to have better net presence and better coverage,” said Swift. “It really showed in how we played… the effort was tremendous.” 

FIELD HOCKEY

VT D-II: #8 Middlebury 2, #9 Springfield 0

From Wednesday, October 24: “One of our better games offensively but we just couldn’t get the ball in the net,” said Springfield co-coach Kelly DeAngelis. “Our team worked really hard at going to the ball, but just came up short in the end.” The game was 1-0 at the half, and then Middlebury scored again with about 9 minutes left of the second half to end with a 2-0 loss for the Cosmos. “We were really proud of the team and know that this year was a building block for the future,” said DeAngelis.
