Car-bus crash claims life of Dover man, 19

NEWPORT — A 19-year-old Dover man injured in a crash with a Newport school bus on Monday, Oct. 15, died from his injuries on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

Funeral services for Andrew C. Sheckler were held Monday, Oct. 22 in Dover.

According to a report from the Newport Police Department, Sheckler was traveling in a westerly direction on Route 11 and 103 and was making a left turn into LaValley Building Supply on his way to work at 6:34 a.m. when the Toyota Corolla he was operating was in collision with a Newport school bus traveling in an easterly direction.

The 2019 International school bus had no students on board at the time. It was being operated by Gail McGirr, 67.

Following the accident, Detective Lieutenant Charles Rataj of the Newport Police department said that while a preliminary investigation was complete, the cause of the crash was still under investigation and he was unable to release further details.
