New Hampshire Scouts to conduct largest food drive collection in the Granite State

MANCHESTER — Scouts throughout New Hampshire will be taking part in the largest food drive collection in the Granite State on Saturday, Nov. 10. In 2017, Scouts and leaders collected over 240,000 items for local food pantries and kitchens across New Hampshire.

Scouts will distribute door hangers on Nov. 3 around their neighborhoods and local communities to remind and encourage residents to leave out non-perishable food items for pick-up and collection on Saturday, Nov. 10. Scouts will begin collecting items at 8:30 a.m.

During food drive collection, Scouts will take the food collected to more than 20 collection sites where it will be sorted and distributed to over 90 local food pantries and agencies throughout the Granite State. Scouting for Food is one of the state’s largest one-day food collection drive, each year making a significant contribution to help fight hunger in New Hampshire.

“Scouting for Food is a great example of our Scouts, parents, and leaders working to make a positive impact in our communities,” said Jay Garee, Scout executive / CEO of the Daniel Webster Council. “Service to others is at the heart of what Scouting is all about and with the generous support of our communities, we are confident that Scouts will continue to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in the Granite State,” Garee said.

The need is even greater this year. The Daniel Webster Council is proud to partner with over 85 local agencies, food pantries and organizations to help answer the call to fight hunger. Many agencies and organizations tell us there is a critical need to restock their pantry shelves. The continued generosity of the people of New Hampshire will have a huge impact and help us to fulfill those needs.

If you receive a door hanger, please make sure to leave your donations in a visible location outside your front door or by the base of your mailbox (please do not hang on or put in your mailbox) by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. Please avoid donating glass or frozen items. If you do not receive a door hanger or your items are not picked-up 1 p.m., please donate to your local food pantry.
