Group says Sununu took illegal donations, campaign disagrees

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A liberal advocacy group has filed a complaint alleging that New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu accepted illegal campaign donations, but his campaign manager calls it a baseless attack.

New Hampshire state law bans contributions by some types of partnerships. Granite State Progress says Sununu’s re-election committee took nearly $20,000 from prohibited partnerships, including $7,000 from Gexa Energy.

Granite State Progress filed an election law complaint with the state on Thursday. The group’s director, Zandra Rice Hawkins, called on Sununu to return the contributions.

Paul Collins, Sununu’s campaign manager, said the contributions are legal and were publicly reported more than a year ago.
