To the editor,
Some choices are clear. And easy. In this year’s election, New Hampshire’s Senator Martha Hennessey (District 5) is one such choice, if compassion and depth of experience are important to you, as are excellent and safe public schools, thriving families, and a woman’s right to determine which medical services she receives.
Hennessey’s successful bid for re-election is paramount if we are to find ways forward that uphold the dignity of New Hampshire’s citizens and help them thrive. Her positions, initiative, and hard work address the countless struggles that we face, such as: below-poverty wages; funding formulas for public education that strain economically-strapped communities; and the opioid crisis. In that same spirit, she supports paid family and medical leave so that individual’s and families’ income streams are not disrupted to devastating effect. She opposes guns in schools, seeking instead less deadly ways to forestall and end the trend of mass school shootings. And she stands with all — women, men, and children — who endure emotional and physical violations and the outcome of lasting trauma. She spoke of being assaulted, when she was a college student, as her statement of solidarity with victims, and to say she will fight for victory over all forms of brutality.
Sen. Hennessey speaks for all of us, in one way or another, and we need her wise and lucid presence in the New Hampshire Senate. Let’s help ourselves by helping her win. Vote Nov. 6 for Martha Hennessey.
