Leo Paquin to address Veterans Day gathering

NEWPORT — Leo Paquin, former Commander of Brewster-Gould-Lee-Rollins Post 25 American Legion will give the Address of the Day at Sunday’s Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. on the Newport Common.

The invocation will be given by Robert followed by POEW MIA Empty Chair, Robert Bachand; Pledge of Allegiance, Peter Lovely; National Anthem, Amanda Merrigan; welcome, Post 25 Commander Bruce Richardson; Gettysburg Address, Gavin Lovely; Benediction, Hennig; firing of the cannon, Gordon Smith and rifle squad and Taps, Post 25 Honor Guard.

Members of the Honor Guard include Bachand, Thomas Currier, Arthur Demeis, Wilfred Gonyo William Halleck Jr., Leslie Hamilton, Lloyd Hamilton, Ronald Hand, Robert Haselton, Robert Kangas, Bruce MacDonald, Laura Paquin, Leo Paquin, Peter Sartwell, Hugh Tait and Thomas Verdicchio.

In addition to Commander Richardson other Post 25 officials include Bachand, First Vice Commander; Lois Sturtevant, Second Vice Commander; Lovely, Adjutant; William Halleck III, Chaplain; Demeis, Judge Advocate; Sartwell, Service Officer; Hennig, Sergeant at Arms, Edward Rochford, Officer in Charge; William Rodeschin, Deputy OIC; Sturtevant, Bugler, and Lloyd and Leslie Hamilton, Cannoneers.

The Veterans Day Program lists some of the 2017-18 highlights supported by “Veterans Serving Veterans.”

National highlights include scholarships, $4,275,000; youth programs, $11,000,000; Family Support Network, $950,000; pints of blood collected, 73,952; community service hours, 3,900,000; funeral honors for veterans, 125,316 and emergency aid, $3,146,000.

Department of New Hampshire highlights listed were pints of blood collected, 914; community service and volunteer hours, 28,935; funeral honors for local veterans, 603; 147 local scholarships totaling $86,907; emergency aid, $46,856; temporary financial aid, $7,175 and youth programs, $158,398.
