CHESTER, Vt. — Joseph M. Allen, 67, of Chester, Vermont, died Sunday Nov. 11, 2018 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, following an illness.
He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Jan. 29, 1951, son of John and Catherine (Yasigian) Allen. He was a graduate of Arlington Catholic High School in Arlington, Massachusetts, and attended Babson College.
Mr. Allen owned and operated the Cavendish General Store for many years, retiring in 1996. An avid coin collector, he enjoyed birdwatching and loved his dog Lacey.
Survivors include his son Jason Allen and his wife Terri of Andover, Vermont; two daughters, Johanna Fairbanks and her husband Sean of Mount Holly, Vermont, and Sara Allen Druen and her husband Oliver of Springfield, Vermont; two sisters, Mary Ames of Woburn, Massachusetts and Catherine Maynard of Lowell, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren: Zoe, J.J., Marcus, Greta, Owen, Harrison, Elliot, and Laura; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer Street, Springfield, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chester-Andover Family Center, 908 VT Route 103, Chester, VT 05143.
