Truck and Camry collide, one injured

WEATHERSFIELD, Vt. — On Nov. 12 Vermont State Police from the Westminster Barracks were called to respond to a report of a two-vehicle crash located on Vermont Route 131 and the intersection of Branch Brook Road in the town of Weathersfield under clear and dry conditions.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 International tandem dumptruck driven by Dennis J. Thompson, 63 of Charlestown was traveling westbound on VT Route 131 and crossed the double yellow center on the sharp corner by the intersection of Branch Brook Road. At that time a 2105 Toyota Camry driven by Ronald Prouty, 46, of Weathersfield was traveling eastbound around the sharp corner crashing into the dumptruck in the Camry’s travel lane.

The truck sustained major damage to the driver side front bumper, fender, axle and fuel tank, but Thompson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. There was major damage to the front bumper, grill, windshield and driver side wheel on the Camry and Prouty, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was injured and transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Thompson has been cited under Vermont Civil Violation Complaint 3321345 T23 VSA 1038 (driving on roadways laned for traffic) and court action in Windsor County is pending.
