The Bellows Falls field hockey team had five players and their head coach honored by the MVL following their perfect season that ended in a D-I state title.
“I feel it is a great honor to be voted coach of the year by my fellow coaches,” said BF head coach Bethany Coursen, who was recognized as Coach of the Year in the MVL ‘A’ Division. “All of the credit for this selection goes to my team. They are the ones that work hard, show great sportsmanship and give me everything they have. I can’t be coach of year without an amazing team and that is what I have luckily had for a long time.”
“This whole team deserves to be recognized, but when voting for players, not everyone can be on the MVL team from one school,” continued coach Coursen. “I am very fortunate that we had five players make the team. That is almost unheard of.”
For BF, Abbe Cravinho (Sr. Capt.), Madison Streeter (Sr. Capt.), Molly Kelly (Sr. Capt.), Madi Joy (Sr.), and Halle Dickerson (Jr.) were all First Team selections.
Cravinho and Kelly were always on attack at the head of the Terriers’ offense this season.
“Abbe [Cravinho] and Molly [Kelly] are a huge part of the forward line,” said Coursen, “… scoring a combined 140 goals in their high school careers… and probably as many assists. They passed great and made the other players around them better.”
Streeter played all over the field for Bellows Falls, as she served as a true leader throughout her time with the team.
“Madison [Streeter] was the center of the field. She moved the ball up the field and fed the forwards then would recover back to help out on defense,” said Coursen.
Joy and Dickerson played a big role on the defensive side of the ball for the Terriers in 2018. They were a big reason that BF only allowed two goals all regular season.
“Madi [Joy] and Halle [Dickerson] were two parts of a five-part wall back there on defense,” said Coursen. “With Taylor [Goodell] and Brooke [Bennett] rounding out the defense, not much got back to our goalies. Madi has great timing on her block tackles and Halle will swoop in out of nowhere to get the ball and carry it up the field to the links or forwards. The defense did such a great job that neither goalie got challenged all year until playoffs.
Bellows Falls field hockey will graduate 12 seniors in the spring.
