Advice about atheism

To the editor,

I was intrigued by Sam Killay’s letters-to-the-editor on Nov. 11 and 20.

With regard to the November 11 installment, here’s another reaction from a famous atheist who was asked like Kathryn Lopez’ letter to Killay on Nov. 7 regarding the possibility of facing God. When posed the same question, Bertrand Russell’s response was, “I wasn’t given enough information.”

I read a lot of free thinking material and books on atheism. I am also a member of the Unitarian Church of Long Beach and attend monthly atheist meetings. I just read a new book brought to my attention by our minister. It is entitled, “The 7 Types of Atheism,” by John Gray. I recommend it to illustrate how varied atheism can be and how the famous people highlighted in Gray’s book have all had the courage to doubt and/or disbelieve.

Lastly, for Claremont to be truly non-sectarian with its crèche and menorah, how about adding a poster with the words, “Happy Solstice!”
