WINDSOR, Vt. — What goes better together than peanuts and beer?

That was the thinking of Town Manager Tom Marsh when he learned that Windsor, North Carolina was celebrating its 250th anniversary.

“They are about the same size as Windsor (Vt.), they have a similar type of historic background,” Marsh told the select board Tuesday.

The North Carolina town is known for peanuts. “Bertie County Peanuts are one of their big employers in town and they make … fried peanuts, and I bought some,” Marsh said, finding them a tasty treat. Then he got an idea.

“I went to Harpoon, and Harpoon was kind enough to donate a 12-pack of some beer as a congratulatory thing on their 250th anniversary … Their mayor down there [James F. Hoggard] sent a return gift.”

That gift, proudly displayed by the select board, was a 3-pack of Bertie County peanut products, specifically peanut brittle, butterscotch peanuts, and chocolate peanuts.
