Weather related accidents

On Tuesday Nov. 20 there were several weather-related car accidents with no serious injuries reported. A car went into the ditch on Hanover Street around 5:50 a.m. Around 6:30 a.m. another vehicle was reported off the road at Sullivan Street and Woonsocket Avenue. The attending sergeant reported the road was extremely slippery and closed it temporarily. 

Less than an hour later, at 7:14 a.m. a caller reported a tow truck that got stuck, apparently while trying to turn around on Moody Avenue. Dispatcher informed the officers that the tow truck driver’s CDL license had been suspended, which was reported to state police. 

At 11:34 a.m. another accident was reported at North and Washington streets, with no injuries. 

That evening around 8 p.m. a car hit a deer on the Charlestown Road. The deer survived the accident but the car needed to be towed. 

 

Drive off leads to charges

Nov. 22, Cumberland Farms called the police to report a customer left the gas station without paying. Claremont police stopped the vehicle on Washington Street, where it was found the person involved had a bench warrant from Claremont District Court for non-appearance on an assault charge. 

Darcie Miller, 31, of Claremont was transported to jail and additionally charged with driving with license revoked or suspended. 

 

Domestic violence

Nov. 23 around 11 p.m. after someone reported a disturbance, police responded to find the male subject had fled the scene on foot and the female victim was bleeding. With assistance from the K9 unit the subject was found hiding in a garage and apprehended.  Kevin Wheeler, 31, of Claremont was charged with domestic violence / simple assault with physical contact as well as criminal mischief. 

In another domestic violence incident, on Nov. 24 Anthony Emanouil, 53, was charged with violating a protective order around 5:26 p.m.

 

Shots fired in apartment

On Nov. 24 police responded to a caller who said shots were fired in an apartment on Chestnut Street around 9 p.m. Officers confirmed one round in the floor of the lower apartment. Steven Kanya Sida, 24, was subsequently charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a firearm. After cooperating with the police Sida was given a courtesy ride back to the apartment. 

 

Stolen car recovered

On Dec. 2 around 10 p.m. a car that had been reported stolen in New York State was sighted on Pleasant Street. Charlie Murray, 40, of Fort Edward, New York was subsequently apprehended and charged with receiving stolen property worth $1001- $1500. Bail was set at $1,000 cash and the vehicle was towed.
