Raffle winners announced

By BRENDA BURNS
NEWPORT — If anyone watches television at night, you may have seen that the game show Deal or No Deal was back on. Well, you do not have to worry about making any deals if you are the lucky winner of our 12 Days of Christmas raffle.

SCNS is giving away $2,000 over the next 12 business days. The first four winners of $100 each was Steve Miller, Deb Clements, Alex Balla and Cory Richardson. This was possible because of sponsors such as, Sugar River Bank, Hubert’s of West Lebanon, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust and Crown Point Cabinetry.

Next week’s sponsors are Crown Point Cabinetry for two days, Mount Sunapee and Claremont Savings Bank. Best of luck to everyone!

This week the State of New Hampshire DHHS was at the Newport Senior Center for a listening session to learn what services are important to older individuals and what services would be helpful for older individuals. The state is asking this information because they are in the process of writing a 4 year plan for the aging population.

We are fortunate that the state is carving out time to listen to opinions of the older population. However, we learned that input from Sullivan County has been very minimal and not represented in the numerous feedbacks they have received to date.

If you have ever wished there was a particular service available to you or someone you care for, it’s not too late to have your voice heard. Surveys are available online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NHSPOASurvey. Computers and free Wi-Fi is available at the center.

The “Memory Tree of Lights” is going well but volunteers are still needed to sit at one of the local banks for a two hour interval to collect names from sponsors. Sponsor a twinkling light in memory of a loved one or to honor that someone special. All names will be announced on NCTV and placed in the window of McCrillis & Eldredge. Names are $3 each or 4 names for $10. Call 863-4422 if you have any questions or are able to volunteer for this fundraising event.

We did receive confirmation that AARP will be at the NSC again, in 2019, to prepare taxes. Volunteer tax preparers will be here each Thursday beginning February 7 until April 11. We will have more details to share beginning mid-January.

It is great to see so many people utilizing the walking path. Keep up the great work! There are still some tiles available for sponsorship for $25. If you are interested in sponsoring a walking path tile, please see Larry Eaton, President.

The sign-up sheet for SCNS annual Christmas dinner is now out. The Christmas dinner will be roast pork and all the fixings. Lunch will be served at the NSC and Earl Bourdon Center, in Claremont.

SCNS has surveys out for its congregate meals, home-delivered meals and transportation services. Please take the time to complete this survey. This is important information to help us to make improvements in the correct areas and to give the state helpful information to support these valuable programs.
