NEWPORT — The Newport Town Clerk’s office, in conjunction with the Newport Historical Society, are hosting a preservation workshop presented by the Northeast Document Conservation Center on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019 with a snow date of Jan. 15, 2019. The event will be held in the Richards Free Library Ballroom, 58 N Main St, Newport. The workshop will be appropriate for town/city clerks, historical societies, librarians, collectors, museum directors or anyone who wants to learn more about preservation of paper collections.
Are you unsure about what preservation is or where to start and want to learn more? Are you just beginning a preservation program? Do you want to fill in gaps in your knowledge? Are you passionate about old documents and want to learn more about preserving paper base collections? The workshop will cover topics including: introduction to preservation, common paper-based materials, agents of deterioration, building and storage environment, shelving and enclosures, safe handling and exhibits, preservation planning. Hands-on activities are included.
Space is limited so secure your spot now! Cost of the workshop is $60 per person and includes attendance, materials, morning snack and beverage — lunch is on your own. Determination will be made by Monday, Jan. 7, if we are postponing to the Jan. 15 date.
