CLAREMONT — Claremont’s Off Broad Street Players (OBSP) will continue their long-standing tradition of providing entertainment on New Year’s Eve at the Claremont Savings Bank Community Center. This year’s performance, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., will pay tribute to the golden age of radio with music and comedy in the style of a classic radio show.
A special feature will be the use of a trombone to provide unusual sound effects for an original radio episode titled “Reckless Driver.” Steve Wood, who plays with the Claremont American Band, developed his trademark comic routine as a high school band member in Connecticut. In later years, he often brought his trombone with him to social gatherings, where he would delight other guests with his unusual musical storytelling.
Throughout their marriage, his wife Sharon didn’t always appreciate Steve’s repeated performances as much as his friends did. This year, however, she decided to use her husband’s quirky talent as a sound effect in one of the radio show episodes that she will direct on First Night.
The full cast of this brand-new variety show includes OBSP members Trudee Bacon, Mike Grace, Kara Lee and Scott Magnuson. The show is designed to entertain a mixed audience of children and adults.
