To the editor,
I am a New Hampshire born native, currently residing in Moscow, Idaho. My sister who lives in Charlestown sent my Christmas gifts wrapped in your paper, which I enjoyed reading.
I just had to respond to the article of the residents defending the Nativity and Menorah displayed in the commons. After reading the article I Googled atheists to find out if they had a symbol that could be displayed in the park next year. After all, the New Hampshire motto is “live free or die,” so let’s all join in living free — yes?
Okay then, the symbol for an atheist is an open atom and to my eyes — guess what! That looks a great deal like a six-sided Star of David. Sweet! Put it up and I’m sure that both Christians and Jewish faiths alike will enjoy the new symbol so beautifully lit.
Thanks to Mr. Killay for expressing his feelings and for understanding that we all have the right to freedom of expression, and not the freedom of repression, which he would have if we gave way to his desires to no longer show our faith through religious symbols during times of the year sacred to us.
