Really resistant to arrest

HOPKINTON — On Dec. 31, 2018 at approximately 1:45 a.m., New Hampshire State Police were on patrol in the Troop D area when Trooper Maxim King alerted troopers to a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 93 north in Concord. Trooper King observed the vehicle traveling at a speed of 117 mph and was able to safely conduct a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle. But as the trooper approached, the operator fled in his vehicle in an attempt to elude King, increasing his speed past 120 mph. At this time troopers lost contact with the vehicle, but it was then observed in Hopkinton, where an officer again stopped the vehicle, and the operator fled in his vehicle upon being approached.

A short time later, N.H. State Police Troop D was told the vehicle had been involved in a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 89 at Exit 5.

Troopers along with local agencies arrived on the scene in Hopkinton to discover that the driver had fled on foot. Sgt. Vincent Grieco responded to the scene with his K9 partner, Lincoln. Lincoln was deployed to locate the subject and successfully found the operator in the woods along Interstate 89. The subject resisted arrest and was taken into custody with the assistance of K9 Lincoln.

The operator refusing to cooperate was ultimately identified as Efrain V. Perez-Abreu, 35, of Manchester. Perez-Abreu was charged with driving while intoxicated (third offense), aggravated driving while intoxicated, operating while a habitual offender, operating after suspension because of DWIs, disobeying a police officer (two counts), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, conduct after an accident, obstruction government administration, resisting arrest (three counts)

Perez-Abreu will be arraigned in the Merrimack Superior Court on Jan. 17.

NHSP Troop D was assisted by the Bow Police Department, Hopkinton Police Department, Henniker Police Department and the Hopkinton Fire/EMS.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information is asked to contact Trooper Maxim King at 603-223-4381 or email at [email protected].
