Oxbow 76, Springfield 46
Three players reached double figures for the undefeated Olympians during Thursday’s 30-point victory, 76-46 over Springfield.
Jace Page scored 13 points for Oxbow (5-0), while teammates Seth Carson and Trevor Moore added 11 points apiece. Noah Zierfus (18 points) paced the Cosmos.
A 24-6 second period put the Olympians in control and they finished things off to go to 5-0.
“We tried to play their pace instead of our own,” said Cosmos coach Mike Ruppel of Oxbow’s pressing, running tactics. “At halftime we talked about it and then we came out and scored 20 points in the third quarter.”
The 1-5 Cosmos will try to bounce back on Saturday when they host Fall Mountain.
“We scrimmaged them and they played zone so we’ll get into the gym tomorrow and go to work on that,” Ruppel said.
Green Mtn. 59, Long Trail 38
GM jumped out to a 14-3 lead after the first quarter. “We played some great defense and made things difficult for them,” said GM head coach Brian Rapanotti.
Green Mountain was up 26-16 at the half. Long trail hung around in the second quarter, made a few more shots and made it a game at the half.
Green Mountain stormed out in the third quarter behind 8 points from Brooks Ordway-Smith to take a 44-24 lead after the third. “We got out in transition and scored some easy buckets. Our defense really was stout tonight, we made them work for it tonight,” said Rapanotti.
Green Mountain was led by Brooks Ordway-Smith with 18 points, Dylan McCarthy scored 11, and Ty Merrill added 9.
Long trail was led by Jackson Washburn with 14 points.
Green Mountain is 3-2 on the season and hosts West Rutland on Saturday at 1 p.m.
ConVal 60, Kearsarge 51
ConVal came out in the second half and hit seven threes to pull away from the tough Cougars’ team. Kearsarge slides to 2-2 and is back in action on Monday, January 7 as they play host to Laconia.
