What prompts disbelief?

To the editor,

The news media has been giving a lot of coverage to a publicity-seeking man who claims to be upset because the city of Claremont had the audacity to erect a manger scene depicting the birth of Christ during the season when our country celebrates the birth of Christ. Wait, what? I need to read back over that. No, I wrote it correctly as unbelieveable as it sounds. I have heard some people claim that Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus. If this man and others have their way, it won’t, if we refuse to take a stand. This anti-Christian sentiment because in vogue and gained a lot of momentum over the past decade. In part of their views are backed by their lack of knowledge of this country’s history and by the misinterpretation of our Constitution. If our Founding Fathers did not intend for God to be involved with how we govern our country, then they must have been schizophrenic considering how many times they referred to God in their written documents while establishing our government and its policies.

I have to wonder what else prompts this disbelief. Is it because of shattered dreams, a betrayal, a major injustice, the death of a child, a serious illness, or being wounded by a church that has convinced them that God doesn’t care or that He doesn’t exist? I have been through all the trials I mentioned and then some. Jesus promisted if we stand strong He would not only help us survive these trials but be victorious. He was and is true to His word. If that doesn’t make sense, well God also promised we would never find Him through human reasoning. When I stood and looked at Claremont’s manger scene, it warmed my heart and filled my eyes with tears, because I was looking at the greatest gift of love ever given to man. What’s next? This man claims to be offended by the cross so we have to take them down? It’s happened elsewhere. Where does this nonsense stop? It’s time we started living up to our state motto. Consider this, if there was nothing more to Jesus than just being another man, then why — for over 2000 years — has he posed such a threat to people like this man tht they use all their energy in their attempts to eradicate Him from our lives?
