‘The Wizard of Oz’ in Claremont Jan. 19

CLAREMONT —Bogovich Dance Company of Marlborough presents “The Wizard of Oz” at the Claremont Opera House at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19.

Every year Tamara Sheppard, owner of Bogovich Dance Company, goes to costumer, Linda Shepard, with amazing ideas to do. This year Tamara wanted a large poppy dress that would take up the whole stage. She wanted to blow up the poppy scene really big.

At their performance in Keene recently you could hear the audience’s exclamations of “Oohs, Aaah’s, and Wow’s. After the show Linda was asked, “How did you make it? Linda says, Other than the fact that she had to move all the furniture out of her living room and used 30 yards of fabric to construct it and was encased in the center of bright red for weeks, she knew they’d never understand.

She also put her special touches on the Lion and his mane, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, Dorothy and her ruby slippers, Oz, Glenda’s crown, the poppy dress and hat, 11 other poppy hats around her, Mayor Munchkin, soldier, and parts of the monkeys, tornadoes, and their masks and the rainbow scene. With the help of Marissa Thurston and Meaghan Blanchard pulling up the reins they were able to get it all done.

Linda has been sewing since she was thirteen, 58 years go and professionally for 41. She has sewn from the mundane hem to clothes being worn to the white house balls. She’s sewn for Senators, soap operas, directors, Miss Canada, and World Champion in Tai Kwon Do, and of course weddings. But designing and construction costumes has given her a newfound love for sewing.

With every idea she comes up with, Tammy looks at her and says, “Go for it” and Linda strives to make Tammy’s dreams and visions come true. Linda says, Tammy has taken some of the most shy children who originally had to be hand-walked out on the stage and made them performers with leading parts. She is an amazing dance instructor. She pulls the best out in the children.

General Admission tickets are available that by phone at 542-4433 or in person at the Opera House Box Office in City Hall Complex at 58 Opera House Square, Claremont.
