NEWPORT — Calvin George Leavitt, born May 23, 1920 in Enfield.
He served in the United States Army for 12 years. There he graduated from NCO School as a staff sergeant and was a chauffeur for many generals.
He worked in sawmills most of his life as a sawyer. He and his wife were travelers to many countries as well as many states of the U.S.
Calvin was predeceased by his wife Magdalena. He is survived by his two daughters, Karin Lavertue and Susan Clement, and their husbands, respectively Ernest and William. As well as his two sons, Norbert and Marc and his wife Michelle. Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren are left behind, a sister in-law and a brother in-law, many step-grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Newport First Baptist Church, Friday Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please give any gifts to the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization of which Calvin faithfully contributed to. May God bless you and may God bless America.
