SUNAPEE, N.H. – The Mount Royal girls faced a tall task of welcoming the defending state champion Hinsdale Pacers on Tuesday night, and they let one get out of hand.
The Pacers rolled 48-29 and improve to 11-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 7-3.
The teams both played a 2-3 zone for much of the game, and Mount Royal tried to speed things up by going to a full-court press at times, but not much could stop the offensive output from the Pacers.
While the Mount Royal game plan to clog the paint and stop the Hinsdale inside attack, the Pacers played around that and were able to connect from long range all game. They shot an impressive 42% from three (9 of 21).
The opposite can be said of the Knights, who shot just 3 for 25 from outside the arc.
Trailing 26-12 at the half, the Knights managed to score only two points in the third frame as the game started to slip away.
“I was expecting a closer game,” said Mount Royal head coach Derek Tremblay, who is seeing success in D-IV this season in the school’s third year as a varsity program. “We’ve got some experience and that’s a different game if they miss a few three’s and we make a few. But, with Hinsdale, we never really play well against them.”
Alexis Matte led the way for the Knights with 14 points, Sophie LaRose scored 6 and Jacinta Hogan chipped in with 5.
Mount Royal will host Epping in a makeup game on Thursday night in hopes to get back on track.
