With the wind out of the picture, warmer temperatures returned on Wednesday and Thursday Jan.23 and 24 along with some ice. Sidewalks tended to ice up ice on roadways was spotty causing a reduction in speed in some areas of the state.
The steady, but light rain, during the day on Thursday tended to turn those icy sidewalks into slushy surfaces, certainly an improvement. It did make for easier foot traffic.
When Friday arrived there were plenty of icy surfaces around including driveways and sidewalks. The Sugar River took on a spring-like look with its waters reaching up to the top of its bankings. Snow on rooftops wasn’t nearly as impressive depth-wise on Saturday morning as it was a couple of days earlier.
On Thursday 1.51 inches of rain fell in Sullivan County and personnel at area fire departments were called on to help pump water out of cellars in several homes.
Sunday afternoon, Jan. 27, featured a couple of minor storms passing through the area and leaving an inch or two of light snow. A more impressive snowstorm was projected for Tuesday night into Wednesday with 3-6 inches of snow expected. The good news is that this area picked up between 3 and 4 inches of fluffy snow. And it was very light.
