Accused of aggravated assault

PUTNEY, Vt. — On Feb. 2 at 4:45 a.m., troopers from the Vermont State Police, Westminster Barracks were alerted to a possible assault, that occurred at a residence in the town of Putney, Vermont.

Subsequent investigation led to the discovery that Adrian P. Stockwell, 31, of Putney had thrown the victim against the wall, and after they fell to the ground Stockwell mounted and pinned down the victim and began to strangle them.

During the assault, the second defendant, Gilbert Ramirez, 57, of Westminster, Vermont help to hold down the victim and hit the victim in the face once with his elbow. Ramirez also took the victim’s phone and broke it.

Both defendants were located and subsequently arrested. They are lodged at the Southern State Correctional Center and are being held without bail. On Feb. 5 they will appear in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windham Unit to answer the charges. Stockwell is charged with aggravated domestic assault and Ramirez with aggravated assault and interference with emergency services.
