WESTMINSTER, Vt. – The Bellows Falls girls improve to 11-3 after taking down D-II Woodstock 55-22 on Monday night, as they remain undefeated at home this year.
They crashed the glass hard, corralled rebounds, and made strong put-backs throughout the entire night.
“We boxed out and didn’t give them many second shots,” said BF head coach Todd Wells. “And offensively, we had a lot of second, third, fourth, fifth opportunities… we were really aggressive.”
This formula, along with some streaky shooting, boosted the Terriers out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter, and they stretched it to a 30-8 advantage by halftime.
BF never let up in the game after leading by twenty-plus points just a few minutes into the second. They used five different scorers in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice.
“We try to tell them to keep playing full speed,” said coach Wells. “You can’t simulate game speed in practice so it’s good to get some work in. We still have plenty to work on.”
For Bellows Falls, Halle Dickerson led the way with 17 points, Taylor Goodell added 11, and Abbe Cravinho scored 10, and Molly Kelly chipped in with 5.
For Woodstock, Morgon Myers led the way with 8 points and Tobin Calder added 6.
Right around the corner for the Terriers is an enticing local matchup, as they host Green Mountain on Thursday, who are also 11-3 on the year after their win at Twin Valley on Monday night, 49-21.
Wells was adamant about mentioning the height of the Green Mountain team, and hopes he sees similar rebounding on Thursday night that he saw from his team on Monday.
“The tempo was a lot slower tonight than we’re used to. We’ll see when we play Green Mountain if we will be able to speed it up and maintain our composure like we did tonight,” said Wells following the game. “If we can limit their second chances and keep them off the boards I think we’ll be alright. Hopefully something like tonight.”
The Terriers also have a tough game following their Thursday night clash with the Chieftains. They host Springfield (10-4) on Monday night for what will be their third consecutive home game. The Cosmos beat BF on Thursday 58-52 in Springfield and they have won seven of their last nine games.
