River Theater Company to hold auditions for mystery dinner production

CHARLESTOWN — River Theater Company announces auditions for an upcoming murder mystery dinner event, Downtown Crabbey, a Downton Abbey-inspired parody on Saturday Feb. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the theater in the old Town Hall on Summer Street in Charlestown. Performances will be March 22 and 23.

Set in 1900, a hotel inspector is due to inspect Downtown Crabbey, a hotel designed for young American travelers to feel at home in London. His arrival is causing something of a panic, but unfortunately (for him) he is found dead before he can begin his work.

The murder mystery will feature a minimum of 4 actors in brief comedic scripted scenes and lots of improv. Adults of all ages and types are invited to audition and no preparation is necessary. Casting is flexible and the number of actors can be expanded. Sam Maskell, the director, has previously directed several murder-mystery dinners including last year’s “Poetry to Die For,” “Murder at Hartness House,” which she wrote, as well as a variety of other local area productions, including “Love Letters,” “Elegies for Angles, Punks, and Raging Queens,” an AIDS benefit at the Latchis Theater in fall 2016, and most recently is directing a VDay benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” this Feb. 22 -24 at World Under Wonder Playhouse in Ascutney, Vermont.
