Carnival breakfast buffet at Senior Center Sunday

BY BRENDA BURNS
NEWPORT — Ahoy, me Hearties! Shiver me timbers! It’s time to batten down the hatches and get the poop deck in shipshape order for the Newport Senior Centers Winter Carnival Breakfast Buffet from 8-10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10,. All of the volunteer crew is putting the ole heave ho into preparing a feast sure to please.

The breakfast buffet will include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home-fries, pastries, French toast with real maple syrup, donated from Stetson’s Farm, fruit, coffee, juice, toast and milk. This belly filling spread is only $7 per plate and $4 per plate for children under 8 years of age. Tickets are now available at the Newport Senior Center and will be available at the door on Feb.10.

Everyone who is anyone should plan to visit and if we don’t see you, we will assume you are shark bait somewhere with Davy Jones’s locker.

While you are at the breakfast, be sure to purchase a ticket for our Valentines “Basket of Burning Love” raffle. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. The drawing will be held on Monday, Feb. 11 during lunch time at 11:45 a.m.

The winner will have a wrapped balsa woven basket filled with chocolates, gift certificates donated by Petal Patch, Courthouse Restaurant and Claremont Cinema, a bottle of Chardonnay with two wine glasses, set of two red candle holders, stuffed animal, bubble bath and balloon. Gifting this basket to that special loved one will definitely heat things up and if you want to just pamper yourself with a gift, that’s okay too.

There is a lost and found box near the elevator. The box is full of coats and shoes that have been hanging on the coat racks for several months now. The box will remain there until Feb. 8. Any items not picked up by their rightful owner will be discarded after Feb. 8.

We are in the process of working out the details for a yoga class to be offered at the center. We have made contact with a local salon to determine if there is an interest in offering some services right here at the center. In addition, we have calls out to a couple different people on different craft projects.

There are many irons in the fire to bring more fun-filled activities to your center. If you have a specific project or idea you would like to see at your center, please share your idea with any board member or the office. We will bring more details as things develop and finalize.

We have had several different groups come to the center this week inquiring about volunteers and requesting an opportunity to speak to our members about volunteering for them. Prior to arranging this type of presentation, we would like to hear from you, our members. Are you interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities that may be available in the community?

If you need a warm place to go or just need to get out of the house, remember that the doors to the Newport Senior Center are always open. See you soon!
