NEW BOSTON, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire authorities are monitoring a large ice jam that’s formed on the Piscataquog River in New Boston and Goffstown.
WMUR-TV reports three properties in New Boston and one in Goffstown are at risk. New Boston Fire Chief Dan MacDonald and Goffstown Fire Chief Richard O’Brien went door-to-door to make sure homeowners are prepared.
Recent extreme high and low temperatures caused an area of the river to freeze, thaw and refreeze, resulting in massive chunks of ice forming a jam nearly a mile long.
MacDonald closely monitored a similar situation last year, but said that jam wasn’t a threat to as many homes.
