GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 5 Green Mtn. 45, No. 4 Peoples 32

The GM girls started at a disadvantage with their center Hannah Buffum not being able to play due to an ankle injury, but the Chieftains overcame that to beat the No. 4 seed Peoples Academy on Friday night to advance to the semifinals at Barre.

GM was up 10-7 after one, but ran into foul trouble in the second quarter and had to substitute and play a zone defense to avoid fouling. They fell behind 19-13 at the half.

The Chieftains started the third quarter in a zone but halfway through the quarter they resorted back to a man-to-man and it paid dividends. They shut Peoples down to lead 30-24 after three and then kept that same energy in the fourth.

GM scorers: Maya Lewis 14; Annie Lamson13; Paige Karl 8.

GM will play at Barre on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
