HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its postseason awards for men’s basketball today with Dartmouth sophomore Chris Knight earning a spot on the All-Ivy League Second Team. He is one of three sophomores to be listed on the second team and just the second Big Green player in the last 20 years to earn a spot on one of the all-conference teams as a freshman or sophomore.
A 6-7, 225-pound forward from Madison, Wis., Knight led the Big Green and was fifth in the league in both scoring at (15.4 points per game) and rebounding (6.8) while recording three double-doubles. He started all 30 games and shot 49.9 percent from the floor, scoring in double figures 25 times while producing at least 20 points on eight occasions with a career-high 27 against Cornell on Feb. 8. His passing markedly improved from his stellar freshman campaign, dishing out 71 assists (2.4 per game) with a personal-best nine in a win over Sacred Heart on Dec. 10. Knight also blocked a team-high 37 shots (1.2 per game, eighth in the league). In conference play, his scoring remained consistent at 15.4 points per game while shooting 52.0 percent from the floor.
Yale junior forward Miye Oni was chosen as the Ivy League Player of the Year, Harvard freshman guard Noah Kirkwood was named the Rookie of the Year and Brown senior forward Obi Okolie earned the Defensive Player of the Year award. The Coach of the Year was bestowed upon Brown’s Mike Martin, whose Bears squad tied for fourth in the league standings while posting a 19-11 overall record.
